TUCSON - Early this morning the Rural/Metro Fire Department received a 9-1-1 call of a mobile home on fire in the 3700 block of East Benson Highway.
The first crew arriving just after 4:10 a.m. found two mobile homes burning. The crews reported smoke and flames were visible from several blocks away.
Firefighters reported problems getting to the fire because of a narrow access driveway into the mobile home community, some vehicles in the way and residents attempting to get themselves to safety as the fire spread into a second home. It took 16 firefighters about 20 minutes to have the fire under control. The fire appears to have started in a single wide home with a covered patio that attached to the second building.
The source of the fire and damage estimates are being investigated at this time. There were no injuries as the result of this fire to either firefighters or the public.
Areas with narrow driveways present a challenge for the responding emergency vehicles. Making sure to leave access for a fire truck or ambulance on a roadway will increase the promptness of the emergency workers, which may mean the difference in life or death situations.
