TUCSON - The family of a drunk driving victim has forgiven the man responsible for Francisco Yanez' death.
On October 5, 2013, Malcolm Milliner was driving when he rolled his SUV on Valencia Road near Interstate 19. The crash killed his best friend, Francisco.
"It's just like hell," Milliner said. "Nobody wants to go through being the reason why their best friend dies."
The Yanez family attended Mothers Against Drunk Driving's annual vigil at Brandi Fenton Memorial Park Sunday. Francisco's mother, Nisssa Yanez, invited Milliner to be with them.
"[Francisco] loved him to death," she said. "My son didn't hate him. I can't hate him."
Milliner feels some comfort from the family's forgiveness.
"I don't expect her to be right here," he said. "But it's good that she is."
Milliner is still dealing with the legal issues. He believes he will still face prison time.
"Don't drink and drive," he said. "It's not good. Don't even try to drink a little bit and drive."
