Driver in Saturday's fatal pedestrian accident arrested for murder

TUCSON- Tucson Police arrested the driver of a truck who struck and killed a 28-year-old man Saturday afternoon in Midtown.

According to TPD Sergeant Maria Hawke, Matthew Bono was crossing Speedway Boulevard in a marked crosswalk near North Richey Avenue, when 74-year-old Edward George struck him.

Bono died at the scene due to his injuries.

Hawke says George did not immediately stop after striking Bono and other motorists had to get his attention to go back to the scene.

Police on scene found indications George was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the accident.

He was arrested and booked into jail on one count of Second Degree Murder.

Bono is the 15 pedestrian killed on Tucson' streets this year.
