The first woman plastic surgeon in Tucson, Dr. Gwen Maxwell MD, FACS brings a feminine touch to cosmetic surgery, as well as technical skills carefully honed by special training and experience.

Gwendolyn Maxwell returned to her native Arizona to establish the first female owned Cosmetic surgery practice in Tucson, Arizona in 1994. After spending three years at Adobe Plastic Surgery she formed Maxwell Aesthetics and devoted her attention to cosmetic surgery. The practice has grown over the subsequent 10 years into a multimillion dollar a year corporation with a full medical spa, certified operating center and office complex.

Her medical education began with a bachelor of sciences in Pharmacy from the University of New Mexico after which she was employed as a clinical pharmacist for Presbyterian Medical Services, an organization dedicated to provide medical care to underserved communities in New Mexico and Arizona. She left this position to continue her career in medicine, graduating with highest honors and first in her class from the University of New Mexico. After graduation she was accepted into the oldest combined Surgery/Plastic Surgery residency program in the country and completed her training with certificates from Michigan State University at the Grand Rapids campus. Here she distinguished herself with honors and served as chief resident in her senior year.

Fellowship training was under the tutelage of Dr.Jim Carraway at Eastern Virginia Medical School after which she entered private practice in Tucson, Arizona. Dr. Maxwell has served as Chief of Plastics at El Dorado Hospital in Tucson, and has been a consultant at Canyon Ranch, the now ten-time winner of Conde Nast Traveler Magazine's Top Spa Award. She is the guest expert for Plastic Surgery for the KVOA news program and has made frequent appearances on television and radio stations as a spokesperson and advocate for plastic surgery.

She is a member of numerous professional organizations, and has contributed to medical literature addressing subjects regarding breast surgeries.

August 2006, Dr. Gwen Maxwell opened Maxwell Aesthetics Medi Spa and her state of the art surgery center, Aesthetic Surgery at Hacienda Del Sol. This facility is the first of its kind in Southern Arizona. The 13,000 square foot building houses Dr. Maxwell's Medical Practice, the Medi Spa and the Aesthetic Surgery Center at Hacienda Del Sol which features the most modern equipment available and a well trained staff to put your safety and comfort first. The Aesthetic Surgery Center at Hacienda Del Sol is certified by the State of Arizona, American Association for Accreditation of Ambulatory Surgical Facilities, Inc. and Medicare.
