Does your dog deserve to be a 'poster pooch'?

TUCSON - Do you think your dog is the top dog in Pima County? If so, Pima Animal Care Center wants to know. It's holding a contest to see if your best four-legged friend could be the Poster Pooch for its upcoming dog licensing campaign.

Your licensed dog may well be the next whiskered face of responsible pet ownership, gracing campaign materials throughout the community. The winning pet's family will
receive a free photo session with pet photographer Ann-Eve Cunningham. And there might be some treats in it too, for the little tail-wagger.

Licensing isn't just the law for dogs once they reach three months of age. Licensing helps protect your pet, since it's going to be far easier to reunite the two of you if he or she ever gets lost. No matter how safe you think your furry buddy is, we have reports every day from people who thought their pets were secure, too.

The licensing fee is just $15 for a dog that's been spayed or neutered. Those fees help Pima Animal Care Center do its job sheltering abandoned pets and protecting neighborhoods. And since rabies vaccinations are required for licensing, it helps ensure the whole community is safer.

So don't let sleeping dogs lie. Get 'em up and get out the camera. To be considered, email a PDF or JPEG of your LICENSED dog to:
posterdog@pima.gov by midnight on March 18.

Please include a name, age, breed and a few words about why your pet deserves fame.
Please remember that while every dog has his day, there can only be one winner. The Pima County Sheriff's Department will narrow down the field to five finalists and the community will then vote to determine the winning entry from the finalists.

All pets who find loving homes are winners, so if you're looking for a pet, please
