TUCSON - Summer trips are supposed to fun but the latest road trip for the Arizona Diamondbacks has been far from paradise with just one win in seven games away.
On Tuesday in New York facing the Mets it got worse with rain in the forecast.
The Diamondbacks were hoping find some sunshine with their ace on the mound, Patrick Corbin heading in to the game 9-0 and looking for number 10. But it was not to be.
Corbin would hold the mets scoreless through 4 innings but in the bottom of the 5th the Mets would score on an Anthony Recker sending one deep to left field putting the Mets up 1-0.
Then in the top of the 7th the Diamondbacks would finally answer back when Martin Prado hit a home run to tie it up at 1-1
At the bottom of the 7th the Mets would take the lead when Diamondbacks outfielder Jason kubel missed a diving catch in the rain allowing New York's David Wright to score and giving the Mets the lead 2-1.
Play was then halted with a rain delay that lasted 90 minutes.
When play resumed with Brad Zeigler on mound for Arizona a downpour of runs would follow.
In the bottom of the 7th and the Mets' Eric Young doubled down the left field line scoring two runs and making it 7-1 New York.
The Mets would add two more before it was over making it 9-1 New York. Despite winning just 2 games in their last 10 games the Diamondbacks continue to hold on to a narrow lead in the National League West division.
