DEVELOPING: McSally leads Barber by 36 votes; glitch stalls vote count

(TUCSON) -- Arizona's Congressional District 2 rematch between incumbent Democrat Ron Barber and Republican Martha McSally is, once again, too close to call.

Right now, McSally leads Barber by 36 votes, 78,785 to 78,749, with 75% of the precincts reporting.

Meanwhile, technical problems are causing a delay in counting votes from Cochise County.

Election officials claim a machine that counts early ballots broke down in the middle of the election.

County officials took the data to Graham County where the ballots will be counted by their equipment. Graham County uses the same voting system. It is not known how many ballots still need to be counted.

Last election, Barber beat McSally by less than 1 percent of the vote. Cochise County voters account for about 18 percent of the district.

County officials reported a similar technical problem during the primary in August.

The early ballots are expected to be counted later today with the results posted on the county recorders website.
