TUCSON- Picturesque views and mysterious creatures attract hundreds of thousands of visitors to the Arizona Sonora Desert Museum every year.
"It's like the Disney World of zoos," says Jeffrey Adams of Massachusetts.
Now visitors can navigate the museum's 21 acres a little easier with their smart-phones. "What we have is a new app called MyGeoTrex," says Gina Compitello of the Desert Museum. "It's a GPS-based app that will give you more information about the exhibits as you explore the museum."
Starting today the museum is launching a new app for visitors with iPhones, iPads, and iTouch mobile devices. It provides visitors with photos, sound and videos about the exhibits. It also uses GPS technology to provide information about nearby gardens and exhibits.
"To have an app that we can follow back home will be great, we'll be on it a lot," Adams says.
The app is free.
For now it's only available to users of Apple products, but Compitello says it should be available for the Android in the first quarter of 2013.
