TUCSON - While running a DUI checkpoint this week, Pima County Sheriff's deputies found a stabbing victim in a truck driven by a woman who was arrested for DUI.
At about 10:30 p.m. on December 8, deputies at a DUI checkpoint at Palo Verde Road and Aviation Parkway stopped a white pickup truck and immediately noticed a large amount of blood on the driver's side door, according to a news release from Deputy Tom Peine. The truck was being driven by 42-year-old Rebecca M. Gomez; there were three passengers: a 57-year-old man and two female teenagers, later identified as Gomez' daughters.
Deputies saw the man was holding his head, and saw blood dripping down his arm. While investigating, deputies learned he had been in an altercation in the city, and had been stabbed. Deputies found several other stab wounds and administered first aid until Rural Metro Fire Department responded to the scene and transported him to a local hospital.
While talking to Gomez, deputies noted an odor of alcohol on her breath. They checked her driver's license and found her driving privileges had been revoked due to a previous DUI conviction, the release states.
Deputies developed probable cause to arrest Gomez for driving under the influence, the release states. She was charged with two counts of Child Abuse, and one count of Aggravated DUI for Driving Under The Influence While Driving on a Suspended or Revoked Driver's License Suspended or Revoked For DUI. She was booked into the Pima County Adult Detention Center.
