Strong winds have taken their toll in Southern Arizona overnight. Hurricane force wind gusts took out power lines, trees and rooftops throughout the area.
Mt. Lemmon residents are without power. No word yet on snow totals but residents there are experiencing blizzard like conditions and drifting snow. The roadway is shutdown while road crews clean up several mudslides and downed trees. The road to Mt. Lemmon is expected to be closed all day, and there is no power currently on the mountain.
On Mt. Graham, 18 inches of snow reported so far and it's still coming down. One viewer tells News 4 "lots of snow and ice, strong winds are causing extreme snow drifts." ADOT is currently working to keep the roadways clear.
Sierra Vista Police are reporting some storm damage from strong winds overnight. A Cashway Mini Warehouse off of Highway 92 had a portion of its roof ripped off which caused damage to a nearby power line. At the Motel 6 on 1552 East Fry, more roof damage. Part of the roof torn off in the storm landed on a couple of cars in the parking lot. Early this morning, 700 people were reportedly without power in the Sierra Vista area.
In Tucson, a power outage at 1st and River Roads affected approximately 100 people but it has since been repaired. A large tree on the University of Arizona campus near Maricopa Hall was ripped up and fell over. A school bus and a car collided at 36th and Mission at 7:22 a.m. No one on the bus was injured, but one person in the car was transported with minor injuries.
A carport in Marana near Cortaro and Silverbell Roads was blown over but no injuries were reported.
