TUCSON - The Pima County Board of Supervisors unanimously selected a replacement for Arizona State Senator Linda Lopez who retired earlier this month.
The Board selected Legislative District 2 Rep. Andrea Dalessandro to replace Lopez in the State Legislature, at its meeting Tuesday morning.
"The Board of Supervisors chose wisely," said Pima County Democratic Party Chair Don Jorgensen. "Andrea Dalessandro is a smart, hard-working legislator who will continue to be a strong voice for Southern Arizona in the State Senate."
Dalessandro is scheduled to take her oath of office Wednesday at the State Capitol in Phoenix. She will serve out the remainder of Lopez's term.
Dalessandro took office in January 2013. She has previously served on the House Government Committee and Reform as well as the Human Services Committee.
A special election open to elected Legislative District 2 Precinct Committee members will be held to fill Dalessandro's now-vacant seat in the House of Representatives.
