TUCSON - A week's worth of Monsoon thunder for portions of southern Arizona.
The weather set up this week is high pressure over southern Utah, according to News 4 Meteorologist Jeff Beamish. This features keeps Monsoon moisture in place and brings a chance of storms now through the weekend. Expect isolated thunderstorms this afternoon and tomorrow, with highs topping out in the 100's for Tucson. The bulk of thunderstorm activity the next 48 hours will be over Cochise, Graham and Greenlee Counties.
Today's Monsoon Prediction Index sits at a 4 out of 10. There is a moderate risk of storms producing wind gusts over 40 MPH and locally heavy rainfall.
More moisture moves in by mid-week, leading to the best chance of storms area-wide. Scattered storms should develop Wednesday and Thursday with high temps dropping into the upper 90's across the metro. Storm chances slightly decrease heading into the new weekend.
Rainfall this week will be in the 0.25-0.50" with isolated higher amounts.
