TUCSON - Cyclists are hoping the streetcar project will not only revitalize the City of Tucson, but also create a sense of safety for cyclists when riding on the streets.
Ask any cyclist in town who travels through the 4th avenue intersection, and they'll tell you trolley tracks on the ground are their worst nightmare.
"It's really easy to crash, especially when you're turning," said Jordan Palmer
To help reduce any concerns, cyclists were encouraged to attend a meeting with engineers and planners, to hear the latest developments and safety protocol regarding the new Tucson streetcars.
"Were actually looking forward to the new tracks because they will be a much smaller gap, and also get smoother pavement with the street car project," said Tom Thivener.
Even with new tracks on the way, some cyclists said a lot of work still needs to be done when it comes to safety.
"The city and the designers haven't really accommodated bicycles the way I think they should," said Dave Boston.
Thivener said he aware of cyclists concerns, but says designers are doing their best to make everyone safe while on the road.
