TUCSON - This summer has been an extremely violent and deadly month for Tucson.
Of the 38 homicides so far this year, 23 were committed from May to August.
Two of those occurred in June, within a week of each other. Both cases remain unsolved.
Homicide detectives are seeking your help in bringing those responsible to justice.
Thomas Piazza was murdered in broad day light at a fast food restaurant on June 10th.
Detectives say a man wearing a helmet shot him in the head, and then rode off on a bicycle.
Piazza left behind a wife and 4 young children.
His wife Elizabeth says, "My kids just got so ripped off and I did too but for my kids I just think I don't know how a child recovers from this I don't know."
Little Nevaeh, which is heaven spelled backwards, was also ripped off. Her mother, Vanessa Romero was found at Lakeside Park on June 16th. The grandmother is raising the baby. She says the little girl, looks at her mother's pictures and says mama.
Detective Bill Hanson says Vanessa sustained trauma.
"When she was brought out of the water, we had her sandals up on the bank along with her purse all the other evidence we had was blood evidence."
On the day Vanessa was murdered, he learned a man told a convenience clerk about a woman he saw at the park.
Detective Hanson says, "He didn't know it was Vanessa at that point but he said the girl was involved in an argument with a male."
Yolanda Romero is asking for people to please come forward with information to help find her daughter's killer.
Hanson is going through surveillance videos from markets near the park. He's also posted flyers. The detective wants closure for little Nevaeh.
Romero says, "Now when she grows up, I have to take her to the cemetery, I have to show her where her mother is."
All the baby has left now are pictures that she kisses every day.
