Crews get upper hand on wildfire near Flagstaff

FLAGSTAFF (AP) - Forest officials have shut down a popular lava tube cave near Flagstaff as crews tackle a small wildfire burning in the area.

The Wild Bill Fire has burned nearly 30 acres northwest of Flagstaff. It was 50 percent contained Friday evening.

The Coconino National Forest says smoke will be visible from Flagstaff, Bellemont, Interstate 40 and U.S. 180 for the next couple of days.

Forest spokeswoman Brienne Magee says no structures are threatened by the fire. It's expected to be fully contained Saturday afternoon.

She says the Lava River Cave would be closed through Friday as a precaution.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
