Corrections officer accused of smuggling contraband resigns

TUCSON - A Pima County Jail corrections officer accused of smuggling contraband into the facility has resigned.

Arturo Martinez, 33, was arrested on charges of promoting prison contraband, Deputy Courtney Rodriguez said in a release. Martinez resigned after, Rodriguez said.

Detectives said their investigation into long term smuggling into the jail lead to Martinez and two Pima County Jail inmates.

Roberto Zavala, 33, and Jose Ramon Ortiz, 31, were also charged with promoting prison contraband.

Detectives said cellphones, solar chargers and other contraband were snuck inside.
