TUCSON - Sentencing today for a man authorities say is responsible for break-ins at least 50 local businesses. Prosecutors believe Raul Ruben Ramos is responsible for dozens of burglaries mainly on the northwest side and around Sahuarita.
In most instances, the suspect climbed on the roof after hours and gained access through the businesses' duct work. During one of the break-ins at Nana's kitchen in Marana surveillance video shows Ramos cooking up some carne asada and downing a beer.
Now Judge Howard Hantman sentenced Ramos to spend 7 1/2 years in prison.
Ramos pleaded guilty to three burglaries. In court he said he was remorseful for what he had done. "I just want to apologize to victims and the families I know it goes deeper than just them. It sends out a ripple effect to the community. And I apologize for that. I'm just sorry that drugs consumed my life so much that I took it upon myself to do these actions."
Ramos had already spent time in prison on another burglary conviction out of Maricopa County.
The attorney general's office took over the prosecution of this case. They say the victims lost $15,000 in the thefts.
