DOUGLAS - A project to replace six miles of fence along the U.S.-Mexico border near Douglas was completed this morning, increasing the height, depth and strength of the fencing.
U.S. Customs and Border Protection replaced the "landing mat" panel fencing with an 18-foot "Bollard" fence design, increasing the overall height of the fence, and providing a deeper, stronger below-ground foundation, CBP sources said.
The fence replacement is part of the Department of Homeland Security's efforts to strengthen security along the Southwest border.
