PHOENIX (AP) - As Americans are barraged with the message to "go green," companies are vying to be the ones to take them there by developing smarter products to stand out from the competition.

About 1,000 of those companies are showing off those products and scoping out their competitors this week at the Greenbuild International Conference and Expo, held at the Phoenix Convention Center this year.

More than 26,000 convention-goers are flooding downtown Phoenix around the convention center and were amped up for the opening celebration Wednesday night at Chase Field, where former Vice President Al Gore will give a speech and rocker Sheryl Crow will perform.

Among the products that companies are pushing at the convention are tubular sun tunnels, high-efficiency urinals and soy spray-foam insulation.
