Committee to review Super Bowl bill

PHOENIX (AP) - An Arizona Senate committee has unanimously approved a bill that would require the state to reimburse the city of Glendale for some public safety expenses following next year's Super Bowl.

House Bill 2547 would require the state to reimburse Glendale for half of all public safety costs for hosting a major event.

The 2015 Super Bowl will be played in the University of Phoenix Stadium in the West Valley city.

Glendale officials say threats to safety such as the Boston Marathon bombings last year have increased costs of security at major events.

The bill would limit the reimbursement to one year and would create a study committee to determine whether the program should continue in the future. The Senate Committee on Government and Environment approved it on Friday.
