Coach accused of child porn fired from high school job

TUCSON - A Marana swim coach, arrested Thursday night on charges of child pornography, has now been fired from his coaching job at a local high school.

49-year old Bruce Rock was arrested on five counts of sexual exploitation of a minor, after Tucson Police were tipped off by the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children. He is accused of uploading child pornography on his home computer.

Rock appeared in court this morning, where he was released to pre-trial services with no bond. The conditions of his release include he can have no alcohol, no internet and he cannot return to Mountain View High School, where he coaches swimming.

This morning, Mountain View High School Principal Patricia Cadigan sent a message to parents concerning Rock and his immediate termination. The letter is below. Rock also owns the Pima Aquatic Club, which rents pool time to Marana High School.

His next court date is Oct. 17 for a preliminary hearing.

Letter from Principal of Mountain View High School regarding firing of Coach Bruce Rock:
To the Parents of Mountain View High School:
Because we value the importance of communicating with our parents, I am writing you regarding the arrest of Bruce Rock, the Girls Swim Coach at Mountain View. The media is reporting that Mr. Rock was arrested for allegedly uploading child pornography to a social media website.
Please know that we take this situation extremely seriously. I want to assure you that there is no indication that the charges leading to Mr. Rock's arrest involve a MUSD student or Mountain View High School. I recognize that you may have questions and may also feel a range of emotions surrounding this. However, we are limited in the information that may be publicly disclosed.
We will be terminating Mr. Rock's services immediately, and he will not be returning to Mountain View High School. Mr. Justin Madison will be assuming the duties as the head girls swim coach.
Mr. Garelick and I met with the swim team this morning to provide information and address concerns. Counselors are available to provide support for the students as well. The staff at Mountain View High School is committed to providing the best educational experience for our students. I want to thank you for your continued support of our great school.
Sincerely,
Patricia Cadigan
Principal
