MESA, Ariz. (AP) - Two members of a janitorial crew are accused of cleaning out a Mesa Kmart.

The cleaning crew workers told authorities they stole an estimated $50,000 in merchandise from the retailer prior to their arrests Sunday morning after store employees saw them trying to leave the store with items without paying.

Mesa police arrested 25-year-old Amada Peralta Zapata and 45-year-old Juana Gaeta Robles on suspicion of felony theft at the Kmart store on South Power Road Sunday.

They told police they stole items from the store every day without paying for the last eight months, and were sending the items to family in Mexico and selling them to friends.

A search of the couple's residence led to the discovery of stolen CDs and DVDs as well as clothes and toiletries.
