TUCSON - Harold and the Purple Crayon: A Dance Adventure will be hosted at the Centennial Hall Sunday, January 27, 2013 following the Children's Festival.
The show is based off of Crockett Johnson's children's book, Harold and the Purple Crayon. According to a news release, the dancers of Harold and the Purple Crayon: A Dance Adventure, will lead the audience through Harold's new adventure; to do this the dancers allows the audience opportunities to use their exploration of movement to help shape the performance.
Intended for families and children four and up, dancers from Hubbard Street 2 (HS2), a company of six young professional dancers led by Director Taryn Kaschock Russell and associated with Hubbard Street Dance Chicago and its Education and Community Programs, use larger-than-life props and audience participation to educate as well as entertain.
"After reading Harold's adventures again as an adult, I found myself immediately making connections between how Harold creates his own world with his purple crayon and how we create new works at Hubbard Street Dance Chicago," said Kaschock Russell in a news release explaining her excitement of bringing the story to the stage.
Prior to Harold and the Purple Crayon: A Dance Adventure, the Fifth Annual UApresents Children's Festival will take place from 12:30 to 3:30, and is free to the public according to a news release.
