NOGALES - Authorities in southern Arizona say they've seized nearly $168,000 in unreported currency from a man headed for Mexico.
U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers conducting outbound inspections Tuesday at the Dennis DeConcini Port selected a 54-year-old Mexican man for additional questioning and a closer examination of his pickup truck.
When officers removed the bed liner, they reported funding 11 packages containing $167,572.
The unreported funds and vehicle were processed for seizure. The man was arrested and turned over to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement's Homeland Security Investigations. His name wasn't immediately released.
CBP officials say it's the second significant currency seizure in southern Arizona in less than two weeks. On Feb. 13, officers seized almost $169,000 that had been concealed inside the suspect vehicle's audio speakers.
