TUCSON - The Wildcat School grounds in Midtown got a major facelift on Saturday thanks to the University of Arizona‘s Cats in the Community Day.
The one day overhaul utilized nearly 300 volunteers looking to give back.
"They call it the U-of-A extreme non profit make over," says U of A's Holly Altman. "And we chose a project that will be meaningful to where we can have the greatest impact. It's totally volunteer based. It's totally donations, grants and in kind donations "
"And this year the Wildcat School was selected," says Director Lina Susee.
Volunteers paint, fix infrastructure with specialized tools, and refurbish park benches.
They even broke open the concrete school yard to put in a sustainable garden.
"They're going to be shocked," says volunteer Tom Reed. "The kids will not want to leave it's going to be too nice here."
Susee says the Wildcat School specializes in outside the box learning for grades 6 thru 8, "Although next year we are going to be a K thru 8 school. So we're really looking at expanding our program."
