TUCSON - Last week, a 20-year-old Casa Grande man admitted to Pinal County Sheriff's Office deputies that he smoked methamphetamine, burglarized a house belonging to his friend's parents, along with another friend, and then buried the property in the desert.
On November 14, deputies responded to a 911 call reporting a burglary in the 8700 block of West Nugget Road in Casa Grande, Arizona. The man and woman victims told deputies that while they were out of town, someone broke into their bedroom and family safe and stole over $5,000 worth of jewelry, guns and money, according to a news release from the Pinal County Sheriff's Office.
Deputies could find no signs of forced entry, and learned from the victims that their son's friend, 20-year-old Allen Wells, had access to the home at times.
On November 15, deputies located Wells walking on a Casa Grande roadway and stopped to speak with him. At first, he denied involvement, but later admitted to the burglary and said, "Take me to jail, I did it," the news release states. He went into details about how he and 22-year-old Justin McWhirter broke the lock on the bedroom door and stole items from the safe.
Allen took deputies to where he had hidden the property in the desert, and some of the victim's property was recovered, including a handgun they had buried, the release states. Allan said that he and McWhirter had been smoking meth before the burglary and he wasn't thinking about what he was going to do when they broke in.
Wells was booked into Pinal County Jail for one count each of Burglary in the First Degree and Theft.
On November 16, deputies located McWhirter at his parents' home, where he also confessed to the burglary and helped deputies locate more stolen property. He was also booked into jail on the same charges.
