With the downturn in the economy, business burglaries are on the rise.
Locksmith Bruce Fairchild says their are ways you can protect your business. One way is to install a latch protector, it runs between $13 and $15 dollars.
"It bridges the gap between the door and the jamb and it prevents someone from attempting to break in and pry the lock back," says Fairchild.
"Another item would be cinder guards for the front doors on commercial front glass doors they're made out of hardened material they add beef up security on the front doors," he added.
To do that costs less than $10. The high security cylinders usually start around $40 to $50.
The keys will be more expensive because it's difficult to duplicate them. While these items aren't foolproof they are designed to deter burglars.
"It's like having a club on your car. If you have one on your car and the next one doesn't, they're most apt to be broken into than yours."
Phil Kindler is a business owner and a victim of theft. He's taken steps to keep the thieves out.
"I think it's important to take precautions and do what you can to make your place less vulnerable so that the bad guy decides to go somewhere else," says Kindler.
So the extra effort you put in now could help secure your business.
