TUCSON - A string of burglaries has folks on Tucson's northwest side on high alert. Fifteen incidents in the month of August alone.
Deputies says it's happening in the middle of the night with folks asleep in their beds.
For the most part deputies say the suspects are creeping in through sliding glass doors and doggie doors. One guy had his front door kicked in.
"It was about six in the morning, we came down, heard a big noise, just constantly getting hit, getting hit," says Joseph Joy.
Pretty brazen considering Joseph lives with four roommates.
Luckily, one sleeping on the couch must have scared the crooks off before stealing anything.
"I walked down this frame part was shattered, the door was wide open," says Joseph.
Homeowners at River Terrace say the thieves appear to be targeting two story homes, where the residents are asleep upstairs in their bedrooms.
So far no one has been hurt. In fact, deputies say residents haven't made contact with the suspects during the burglaries.
Deputy Jason Ogan says, "They are in and out without the homeowners even recognizing that they're there."
Joseph says, "And I looked out, there was a car driving off, there was guys running off."
Deputy Ogan has this advice for homeowners," Of course we'd like to stress that if anyone notices something out of the ordinary in their neighborhood, suspicious vehicles, suspicious individuals call 911. Lock your windows, lock your doors. Pet doors, secure those."
To find out if your home is vulnerable to burglars the Sheriff's Department offers free home inspections.
