Brown Fire estimated at 25 acres, crews continue to monitor

PHOENIX - The Brown fire ignited by lightning has now burned an estimated 25 acres.

The fire started on Saturday around 2:15 p.m. on the north side of Browns Peak in the Four Peaks Wilderness Area, 10 miles south of Tonto Basin.

The fire is being managed for resource benefit and is estimated at 25 acres. It is burning in chaparral brush and pinyon-juniper fuel types.

Fire activity has been low and the fire is backing down both sides of the ridge consuming dead and down fuels left from the 1996 Lone fire.

Fire crews continue to monitor the fire's progress.

Forest Trail 133, Browns Trail, is currently closed for public safety.

Due to the location and recent monsoonal moisture, the fire poses no immediate risk to life, safety, property or resources.
