PHOENIX (AP) - Gov. Jan Brewer has vetoed a bill that would have changed how the state regulates online education.

The Arizona Republic (http://bit.ly/IVRgQr ) reports that Brewer struck the bill down Monday, citing concern about allowing the state to approve online curriculum.

The bill would have made it easier for Arizona students at the middle and high school level to enroll in online classes. The bill also proposed a master list of approved courses as well as a state ranking and evaluation for each of them.

Opponents said the bill included weak requirements for monitoring tests and an exemption for schools that only enroll full-time students.

Brewer says the state's education department would likely be unable to implement a provision that would give online schools more state funding per student.
