PHOENIX - This afternoon Governor Jan Brewer held a news conference announcing her plan to secure Arizona's border. Brewer says she has no other option but to take matters into her own hands.
Brewer said, "Make no mistake the responsibility to ensure we have an orderly secure border, not just some imaginary line or rickety fence, belongs to the federal government and they have failed."
Brewer created the Border Security Enhancement Program. The calls for an additional $10 million to be given to law enforcement agencies along the border. She will also offer extra DPS officers to any border agency that request them.
She said, "Not a day goes by that we don't hear about high speed chases along our highways or drop house raids in our neighborhoods... there can be no serious attempt to solve the immigration problem inside our borders without first taking steps to secure the border itself."
