PHOENIX (AP) - Gov. Jan Brewer has signed an order declaring a state of emergency in Yavapai County due to a wildfire that overtook a firefighting crew and killed 19 people.
Brewer's order signed Monday makes $200,000 of state money available to support emergency response and recovery efforts associated with the fire.
It also authorizes the state adjutant general to mobilize Arizona National Guard personnel as necessary to protect life and property.
Brewer earlier ordered that Arizona state flags be flown at half-staff until sunset Wednesday in honor of firefighters killed while fighting the Yarnell wildfire.
Brewer's statement announcing the flag lowering says the state has lost some of its bravest firefighters.
She says the day will be forever etched in Arizona's memory as a dark and most devastating day.
