BREAKING: Update on gas line fire burning on south side

TUCSON - We have an update on the gas line fire burning on the south side.

A construction crew working near Nebraska Street and 9th Avenue hit the gas line, causing the fire. Both Apollo Middle School and Liberty Elementary School have been evacuated as a precaution. All the students are safe.

Sunnyside School District says it will probably evacuate S.T.A.R. Academic Center, a high school located up the street from Liberty Elementary, as well.

Sunnyside District officials want to assure parents that everyone is safe and that buses are on standby to take children to another location, if necessary. Nurses are also on scene with water and other necessities.

Nebraska is closed, so parents are not able to pick up their children and Tucson Police are asking that parents do not try to access the area.
