TUCSON - Shila Carrigg said she's lucky to have her 5-year-old son Conner in her arms, after he nearly drown in the family pool.
"Today I could be planning a funeral instead of bringing him home," said Carrigg.
Conner had been missing less than five minutes in Carrigg's mother's home when Conner's aunt, 11-year-old Felicity, went to check on him.
"He wasn't in his play room. My mom's door was open I went to look in there and the blind was through the doggie door so I looked through there and he was in the water," said Felicity.
Carrigg immediately went to Conner's rescue.
"I just went for him and just yanked him out as fast as I could, and then just went through the steps of what I needed to do," said Carrigg.
One step Carrigg didn't have to do was perform CPR. Fire officials said Conner started to vomit up water allowing him to breathe again.
Conner was able to squeeze his enter body through a doggie door which isn't much bigger than a piece of notebook paper.
"He gets into just about everything you can think of, that's why we check him so frequently," said Carrigg.
Conner is now back home from the hospital and doing fine, but Carrigg said for now she'll be keeping a close eye on Conner.
According to the Tucson Fire Department, this is the 11th near drowning incident in Pima County this year.
