NOGALES - Customs and Border Protection officers have arrested two suspects in separate incidents for attempting to smuggle meth and heroin.
On Tuesday, CBP officers at the DeConcini Port of Entry detected drugs in a 34-year-old Mexican national's Honda sedan with the help of a canine unit. The estimated amount of meth found in the car's spare tire is $50,000.
Officers at the same crossing selected a 23-year old Mexican national for further questioning when he tried to enter the U.S.
A drug detection canine alerted officers to 13 pounds of heroin, valued at nearly $185,000, hidden within the car's frame.
Both men were referred to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement's Homeland Security Investigations and the vehicles and drugs were seized.
