TUCSON - On Wednesday, Border Patrol agents in Southern Arizona seized over 1,300 pounds of marijuana, worth about $681,500, in two separate incidents.
Agents from the Casa Grande station found 19 abandoned burlap backpacks and four bundles of marijuana wrapped in cellophane after responding to detection technology, according to a news release from Customs and Border Protection. Agents apprehended a man from Zacatecas, Mexico, in connection with the drugs, which weighed 1,119 pounds and had an estimated value of $559,500. The man was found to have an outstanding warrant in Las Vegas, Nevada for cocaine possession and faces possible extradition.
Also on Wednesday, a canine team out of the Willcox station inspected a vehicle at the State Route 80 checkpoint to find 244 pounds of marijuana concealed throughout the vehicle. Two adults were taken into custody, and Child Protective Services took custody of a child.
