PHOENIX (AP) - The Maricopa County Sheriff's Office says a suspended Border Patrol agent has been arrested after he was pulled over for speeding. The sheriff's office said Friday it arrested 35-year-old Michel Atondo Thursday night along State Route 85.
Atondo informed deputies he was a Border Patrol agent returning to work after spending a few days with friends in Glendale.
Deputies contacted the U.S. Border Patrol who confirmed Atondo was an agent and they added he was currently on "indefinite suspension" since April, due to an ongoing Drug Enforcement Administration drug smuggling case.
Upon searching the vehicle, deputies discovered Oxycodone and synthetic marijuana.
Atondo was booked into a Phoenix jail for criminal speeding and suspicion of possession of narcotic drugs. It was not clear if Atondo had legal representation.
