NOGALES, Ariz. - On Wednesday, border officers at the Dennis DeConcini Port in Nogales, Arizona intercepted thousands of rounds of high-caliber ammunition bound for Mexico.
Customs and Border Protection officers conducting routine inspections on vehicles heading into Mexico referred 21-year-old Erik Raul Enriquez-Leon, of Nogales, Mexico, for additional inspection, according to a CBP news release. Officers located 272 boxes of ammunition, the type often used in assault weapons,
The vehicle and the 5,440 rounds of ammo were processed for seizure, the release states. Enriquez was arrested and turned over to U.S. Immigrations and Customs Enforcements Homeland Security Investigations for further investigation.
