TUCSON -Border Patrol agents found over half a ton of marijuana loaded into an abandoned truck in the Vekol Valley area west of Casa Grande yesterday.
Agents discovered the abandoned Chevy Tahoe near Interstate 8 Monday while conducting joint operations with U.S. Immigrations and Customs Enforcement officers, according to a news release from Customs and Border Protection. The truck was filled with 1,097 pounds of marijuana, worth an estimated $548,500. Agents and officers search the area for suspects, but no arrests were made.
The marijuana was turned over to the DEA, and the vehicle, which was reported stolen out of Phoenix, was turned over to the Department of Public Safety.
"Through targeted enforcement and multi-agency cooperation, Tucson Sector Border Patrol continues to make significant progress in denying criminal organizations the opportunity to operate along the Sonora/Arizona border," CBP officials stated in the release.
