TUCSON - Officials confirm that they have found the body of a man who went missing while swimming in Rose Canyon Lake yesterday afternoon.
Divers found the body of 19-year-old Jacob Barlow in the lake, about 15 feet from the lake's shore, near the area where his friends say he was last seen swimming.
There were no issues retrieving the body, which was handed over to the Medical Examiner's Office.
Pima County Sheriff's Department officials say late yesterday afternoon, Barlow was swimming in the lake with six of his friends when he told them he was having trouble, and then went underwater.
A bystander heard his friends screaming and jumped in the water with a mask. He could not find Barlow, sheriff's officials say. The bystander left the area to get a cell signal and called 911.
Deputies responded, but by the time a search and rescue team arrived, it was too late to search underwater.
Rose Canyon Lake remains closed, and the search continued today after the weather allowed divers to safely search the lake.
Swimming is not permitted at Rose Canyon Lake, which is mainly used for fishing - officials say it is dangerous because of fishing lines and hooks littering the lakebed.
