OYSTER BAY, NY - A man operating a yacht full of holiday revelers that capsized on the Fourth of July just off New York's Long Island says the boat was hit by a rogue wave.
Sal Aureliano told TV's News12 Long Island on Thursday he was taking the Candi I home when lightning cracked and moments later the boat was hit by a wave. He says it tilted, then kept turning and turning. He says it was chaos.
There were 27 people on board. Three children died.
Safety experts say the boat was overcrowded.
