CAIRO (AP) - The latest message supposedly from Osama bin Laden is calling for boycotts, not bombs.
In an audio recording aired on the Arab TV network Al-Jazeera today, bin Laden drops his usual talk of religion and holy war to focus on global warming.
The al-Qaida leader blames the U.S. and other industrialized nations for climate change and the problems associated with it. He accuses Washington of being under the control of big corporations that he calls "the true criminals" responsible for global warming and the global economic crisis.
Bin Laden calls for a boycott of U.S. goods and the U.S. dollar, saying the only way to prevent disaster is to break the American economy.
One terror analyst describes the message as an al-Qaida effort to broaden its appeal beyond hardcore Islamic militants.
The authenticity of the recording has not been verified.
