TUCSON- The city has plans to build a network of more than 40 bike boulevards criss-crossing through Tucson's core.
Bike boulevards are shared roadways designed to revitalize neighborhoods and give riders priority.
It'll take years to complete them, but the city transportation department and committed citizens are determined to make it happen.
"They're going to prevent cut through traffic," says supporter Mike McKisson." So that cars aren't cutting through to avoid heavily traffic roads and really make a place that is safe for cyclists and gives them those options that they're looking for."
Construction costs will come from R.T.A. funds as well as other federal transportation grants.
Tucson's first bike boulevard, along Fontana and 4th Avenue, is expected to begin in the fall.
