Tucsonan Sherry Roberts worked out three times a week for nearly two years with no results. She even gained weight. What was she doing wrong? This year it's a different story. She lost 75 pounds since. News 4 joined her during a workout and has her secret for success.
"About 2 years ago, I worked out with Vera as an individual training session. At the time, I just wasn't mentally and emotionally ready to take the weight off," says Roberts after a workout at Focus Fitness.
"I was having a difficult time breathing. I was having a difficult time with my knees, walking, climbing stairs." Sherry was very unhappy with herself. "I didn't like who I was. I didn't like how I looked. I didn't like how I felt. Physically it was difficult to function."
However she was hitting the gym three nights a week. How can that be? Where were the results?
"And in January of 2009, I just made a decision that I was ready to make a lifestyle change." Before that, she says she was not being honest about her food choices. She was getting too many carbs from bread and pasta; not enough protein from lean meats and veggies.
Her breaking point was when her weight reached an all time high of 256 pounds. Sherry went back to Vera at Focus Fitness and Vera signed her up for a Biggest Loser competition. This provided accountability and support.
But Sherry knew she had to be mentally ready this time. The Biggest Loser show gives her inspiration. "And if you're not ready to make a lifestyle change. You're not gonna be successful. And I think that's one of the things they bring out in that program, is bringing them to a breaking point. What is it that will motivate you to make that change? To choose everyday, this is how I live. This is my new life; my new lifestyle."
A new lifestyle that gives her more energy than she's ever had before. Now she's getting results. Results that have profoundly changed her to the core. She says, "The biggest impact? Is it changes how you feel about yourself. How you present yourself. I have more confidence. I have...I'm a stronger person. Make better decisions because i feel better about myself."
Sherry tells us she still indulges in a little chocolate everyday. She says she's content with that because she's lost 75 pounds and continues to workout and eat right.
