Bee attack leaves 2 dogs in critical condition

SAHUARITA - A bee swarm stung several people and left two dogs in critical condition Thursday evening.

The Rural/Metro Fire Department responded to the call in Rancho Sahuarita around 5 p.m.

Crews had to spray the bees with foam because they started to swarm firefighters.

Pat McCracken with HTS Bees will spend hours removing the hive Friday morning. He estimates there are about 50,000.

No people were seriously hurt, but even a Sahuarita Police officer was stung, according to Capt. Grant Cesarek with Rural/Metro Fire.

McCracken thinks the hive has been growing for at least 2 years. It is the biggest attic hive he has seen in more than 25 years of bee removal.
