Bat Cats ready for Super Regional heat

TUCSON - Arizona will host a Super Regional this weekend at Hi Corbett Field beginning at noon Friday.

The NCAA controls the regional tournaments and ESPN's contracted television broadcasts decides the game times. The Arizona Athletics program had no control in the start times, said athletics director Greg Byrne.

Upper 90s are expected for first pitch which means triple digit throughout the games.

Seth Mejias-Brean, a junior 3rd baseman said Arizona might have an advantage this weekend, "we practice in the heat all the time. Like right now at 1:30 and I think we're used to the heat so it's not a big factor for us."

His teammate Johnny Field said he's prepared, "just a lot of water and keep cool in between innings in the dugout."

Dr. Hans Bradshaw from University Medical Center recommends hydrating the day before you plan on being outside, "8 to 10 ounces is a good start but here in Tucson you'll probably want to do that maybe four or five times," he said.

If you plan on being outdoors in the heat Dr. Bradshaw suggests spending as much time as possible in the shade, wearing a cap or hat and drinking plenty of water or sports drinks. He said everyone should be mindful of the symptoms of dehydration, "if you have a headache or you feel dizzy that's something that should send out a red flag."

Arizona will play St. Johns at noon on Friday and Saturday and a third game is possible on Sunday at 1 p.m.
