Back to school shopping discounts

TUCSON - It's back to school time and with it comes the classroom must haves. For many, shopping can be expensive and downright stressful.

To make it easier News 4 Tucson has done some homework for you.

Online blogs are buzzing about a couple of stores in particular, Target being one of them. With a mobile coupon you can get a free gift card just for shopping there. You don't have to be a card holder.

Kianna Carrillo is heading into eighth grade.

"We have to have binders for separate classes, so we don't get mixed up," says Kianna, "flash drives to save work is a big one, I have to pick up two of those and lots of paper."

"We just got started, so this will be full by the end of my shopping trip," says Kianna's mom Renee Carrillo pointing to her shopping cart.

Starting Sunday if Target shoppers spend $25 in school supplies, they'll get a five dollar gift card with a mobile coupon. That deal begins August 3, 2014.

Target's website also provides manufacturer coupons.

To save even more money Renee, a mother of three downloaded the Target app for smart phones.

"What I like to use is Cartwheel," said Renee.

Target employee Lauren Marks describes how Target's app called Cartwheel works.

"You just get the app, download it and it gives you additional savings on things you buy every day. From groceries, home goods to back to school stuff," said Marks.

Online websites like Arizona based Centsable Shoppin, help frugal shoppers by posting coupons, discounts and rebates.

For example Wednesday marks the start of Fry's two week Mega Sale. It runs July 30 through August 12, 2014. The more you buy, the more you save says Larry Russell, Fry's Assistant Store Manager.

"The regular price of notebooks is $1.19. With our VIP card they get these for 19 cents," says Russell.

Russell expects to sell 200 cases of notebooks alone. Who doesn't love a back to school bargain?

"Yes definitely when you have three kids, it's all about saving money," adds Renee.

Also worth a mention? Wal-Mart. If you find a lower advertised price, for the same item they'll match it.
