TUCSON - The ex-boyfriend of Pinal County Sheriff Paul Babeu came forward after Babeu spoke out about allegations that he has threatened that man with deporting him if he revealed their relationship.
The man identified only as Jose was interviewed by CNN.
He said he felt threatened by Babeu and stands by what a Phoenix newspaper reported.
The report stated that the sheriff and his attorney had threatened Jose with deportation if he revealed their relationship.
Jose said he did receive a threatening text directly on his phone from the sheriff saying that he will never have business and his family will be contacted.
Sheriff Babeu has denied these allegations and said the only truth from the story is that he is indeed gay.
"What I think, he just want to keep me as far, so I don't say anything about him or about his behavior," said "Jose."
Babeu denied these allegations.
"I'm a single man. I've never been married. I don't have a fake girlfriend. I was honest. I came out publicly and told the truth completely, and I want to be judged on my record of service, my love of my country, and the fact that my whole life of service, I am the same sheriff as I was last week," said Babeu to CNN.
