ELOY, ARIZ - An Arizona medical marijuana card holder has been arrested for having more than six times the legal amount of medicinal pot in his possession, as well as over $10,000 in cash.
Kirk Hutchins has been charged with possession, transportation and sale of marijuana and driving on a suspended license.
A Pinal County Sheriff's Deputy pulled him over Tuesday night in Eloy, near westbound Interstate 10 at mile marker 205.
The officer noticed a strong odor of marijuana from inside Hutchins' car. When the deputy asked about the smell, Hutchins presented a container with approximately two grams of marijuana inside. Hutchins provided the deputy with his license and a valid medical marijuana card. A check of Hutchins' license status showed it was suspended.
Investigators say as the deputy continued to question Hutchins about the strong odor, he replied, "Man, that's only the half of it. You should have smelled it before my buddy took the other half."
Hutchins was placed under arrest.
A search of his pockets turned up over $700 cash. The deputy also found a duffle bag with approximately two pounds of additional packaged, vacuumed sealed hydroponics, as well as several more stacks of cash totaling over $10,000 inside his car. Several other drug paraphernalia items were also seized from the vehicle.
