AZ judge approved to serve on court of appeals

PHOENIX - Arizona Supreme Court Justice Andrew Hurwitz is on his way to being confirmed by President Obama to serve on the 9th U.S. circuit court of appeals. Hurwitz served as a prominent Phoenix attorney before being appointed to the Arizona Supreme Court by former Arizona Governor Janet Napolitano.
The Senate approved of Hurwitz's nomination by a vote of 60-39, the minimal number of votes to move forward.
Hurwitz's promotion means Governor Jan Brewer can nominate another judge to the 5 member Arizona Supreme Court, giving her a total of three nominations to the court.
